Dear Dairy…

this term for Science Squad, we’re learning all about our country’s dairy industry through the Picasso Cows Program by Dairy Australia. Over the five weeks, we’ll get to know what dairy is, how milk is made, how dairy farms work, and how to make different dairy products. We’ll even get to paint a life-sized fibreglass cow!

There’s lots of hands-on activities planned for this term – can’t wait!

Tuesday Afternoons

Note:

  • Parents are advised to clothe children in old garment as activities can be messy
  • Some days may have late finishes

If this event is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, we will refund participants in full. If you are unable to attend, we require 24 hours’ notice to issue or reallocate your ticket(s) into another workshop.

SCHEDULE

 

Week One – COWS AND DAIRY:

  • An introduction to cows and dairy
  • Cow’s Digestive System – messy fun!
  • Milking Challenge

 

Week Two – MILK AND ICE CREAM:

  • Understanding the difference between homogenised and unhomogenised milk
  • Large scale milk collection and production
  • Making ice cream

 

Week Three – THE DAIRY INDUSTRY:

  • Expanding knowledge on dairy farms (operation and structure)
  • Potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Focus on Australia dairy industry
  • Computer play
  • Dairy Industry roleplay game

 

Week Four – PANCAKE SHAKE:

  • Exploring different dairy products
  • How milk is transformed into dairy goods
  • Learning the history of dairy farming
  • Making pancakes (and all extra components: cream, buttermilk, butter) from scratch!

 

Week Five – GOODBYE DEAR DAIRY:

  • Recap of all things learnt
  • Finalising of learning journals
  • “Interviews”
  • Breakup party
