In Aaron Micallef’s world science and art naturally overlap. Aaron has an established career in science as well as a close relationship with glasswork in both the UK and Australia. His hot glass practice is devoted to capturing the fleeting and magical effects of light in blown and cut glass. A practice complemented by photography, which captures a reinterpretation of the subtle movement of light through glass. “In my current work, I have been surface working glass with design motifs and patterns that are often inspired by nature – either on a macroscopic, microscopic, even nano-scale. On reflection, this is related to my research work in chemistry, studying the packing motifs, geometry and symmetry elements in new types of crystalline materials.” Aaron Micallef Join an online zoom where Aaron demonstrates glass engraving and his creative proccess.
